The Chair for University and Knowledge Region was created in 2014 by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili with the aim of promoting the dissemination of specialized knowledge related with regional development generated by university activities in its area of influence and fostering a regional smart specialization to improve citizen welfare. The area known as Southern Catalonia, which consists of the Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre, has an adequate social and economic dimension and all ingredients to be recognized and to evolve as a knowledge region. The goal of the Chair is to help setting up a system for governing the Southern Catalonia Knowledge Region.
